Marshmallow Ghosts

If you’re looking for a no-bake Halloween treat that’s equal parts spooky and sweet, these Marshmallow Ghosts are perfect. They only need a few ingredients — marshmallows, chocolate, sugar, and skewers — but they look like little floating ghosts straight out of a cartoon.
They’re super fun to make, especially if you’re hosting a Halloween party or baking with kids. The best part? You don’t need any fancy tools or decorating skills. Just a pair of scissors, some melted chocolate, and your imagination!
Each ghost starts as a simple marshmallow, trimmed and shaped to give it that soft, fluttery ghost “tail.” Then you dip one side in sugar to make it smooth and shiny, and finally, draw cute little faces with melted chocolate. They’re bite-sized, soft, and guaranteed to make everyone smile (and maybe giggle a little).
Ingredients
- jumbo white marshmallows
- 2 tbsp white sugar (for coating)
- a small square of dark chocolate
- wooden skewers or lollipop stick

Instructions
1. Prepare the marshmallows
Take each marshmallow and use a clean pair of kitchen scissors to cut it in half across the middle. You’ll now have two shorter marshmallow pieces with flat sides. The cut surface should look like a soft rectangle instead of a round end — that’s perfect, because it’ll make your ghosts look more like floating shapes later.
❤️ Tip: If your scissors get sticky, dip them lightly in powdered sugar before cutting. It’ll help you get cleaner, smoother cuts.
2. Shape the ghost’s “body”
Hold one half of the marshmallow with the flat side facing up.
Using scissors, snip four small cuts into the bottom edge (the rounded side). These little cuts will create the ghost’s “legs” or wavy edges.
Don’t cut too deep — about ½ cm deep is enough. Gently spread them apart a little so the ghost looks like it’s floating.

3. Add the skewer
Carefully push a wooden skewer or lollipop stick through the centre of the bottom of the ghost’s “legs” (the cut side).
Stop pushing once the stick reaches about halfway up the marshmallow.
Be gentle — you don’t want the marshmallow to tear.
4. Coat with sugar
Pour 2 tbsp white sugar onto a small plate.
Dip the freshly cut side of your marshmallow (the flat part) into the sugar so it gets a light, even coating.
This step hides the sticky cut marks and makes the surface look smoother and prettier. It also gives it a little sparkle, like the ghost is glowing!
❤️ Tip: If the sugar isn’t sticking well, lightly press the marshmallow onto the plate — the natural stickiness should pick it up easily.

5. Melt the chocolate
Place your piece of dark chocolate in a small microwave-safe bowl. Microwave it for 30 seconds, then stir it gently.
If it hasn’t fully melted, heat for another 5–10 seconds. The chocolate should be smooth, thick, and glossy — not too runny.
❤️ Tip: Chocolate burns easily! Always heat in short bursts and stir frequently — it keeps the texture silky and glossy.
6. Draw the ghost faces
Dip the tip of a clean skewer, toothpick, or chopstick into the melted chocolate. Use it to carefully draw two little eyes and a small “O”-shaped mouth on each marshmallow ghost.
If you prefer, you can make them look silly, happy, or surprised — each ghost can have its own personality!
Place them upright (or lay them flat on parchment paper) and let the chocolate set for about 10 minutes at room temperature. Once the chocolate hardens, your ghosts are ready to serve!
❤️ Tip: If you want the chocolate to harden faster, pop the ghosts in the fridge for 5 minutes.

Extra Tips
1. Make-Ahead Magic
You can make these a day ahead! Just store them in an airtight container in a cool, dry place. Avoid the fridge too long — humidity can make marshmallows sticky.
2. Flavour Twist
Try rolling the marshmallows in coconut flakes after dipping them in sugar for a “snow ghost” version.
3. Decoration Fun
Colour your marshmallow ghosts with food colouring for fun ghostly effects (like green or purple ghosts)
4. Party Idea
Stick the finished ghosts into cupcakes, hot chocolate, or fruit platters for an instant Halloween upgrade. They also make adorable edible decorations on dessert tables!

These Marshmallow Ghosts are proof that Halloween treats don’t have to be complicated to be magical. With just a few ingredients and five minutes, you can make something cute and spooky.
They’re perfect for parties, gift bags, or even a last-minute sweet snack when you want something festive.
Soft, sweet, and full of Halloween spirit — these little ghosts might just “boo” their way into your heart. 🎃

Marshmallow Ghosts
Ingredients
- large white marshmallows
- 2 tbsp white sugar for coating
- 1 small square dark chocolate about 10g
- wooden skewers or lollipop sticks
Instructions
- Cut the marshmallows: cut each marshmallow in half across the middle to make two short pieces with flat sides. The flat surface will be the ghost’s “head.”
- Shape the body: snip four tiny cuts at the bottom of each marshmallow to form wavy “legs.” Gently spread them apart for a floating look.
- Add the stick: insert a skewer or lollipop stick gently through the middle of the ghost’s “legs,” pushing halfway up.
- Coat with sugar: pour 2tbsp white sugar onto a small plate and press the cut (flat) side of each marshmallow into it to coat evenly. The sugar hides the sticky cut and adds a sparkly glow.
- Melt the chocolate: place the chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl. Heat for 30 seconds and stir. If not melted, then repeat in 5-10 second bursts until melted and glossy.
- Draw the faces: dip a toothpick or skewer into the melted chocolate and paint two eyes and a mouth on each marshmallow. Let them sit for 10 minutes (or chill 5 minutes) until the chocolate hardens.
